Coldplay vient d’annoncer sa tournée nord-américaine « Viva La Vida » pour promouvoir son nouvel album. La tournée s’amorcera le 29 juin prochain à Philadelphia et le groupe s’arrêtera au Centre Bell à Montréal le 20 octobre. Mais le show d'ouverture du Festival d'été de Québec, qui devait se tenir le 3 juillet 2008, n'est pas au menu.
Avant de partir en tournée, Coldplay présentera des concerts gratuits à Londres, le 16 juin au Brixton Academy, et à New York le 23 juin au Madison Square Garden. Leur nouvel album intitulé Viva La Vida sera lancé le 17 juin prochain. Produit par Brian Eno et Markus Dravs, l’album fait suite à X&Y de 2005 qui était entré directement en première position dans 32 pays et s’est vendu à plus de 10 millions de copies à travers le monde.
Le premier single de l’album « Violet Hill » a été téléchargé gratuitement par deux millions de personnes la semaine dernière. La chanson est présentement disponible sur internet et elle atteint le sommet des palmarès radio. Coldplay chantera « Violet Hill » à l’émission matinale « TODAY » à NBC le vendredi 27 juin. Les fans sont encouragés à venir voir le groupe au Studio Window on the World situé au coin de la 49ième rue du Rockefeller Plaza à New York. De même, Coldplay donnera une autre performance lors du « The Daily Show » de Jon Stewart le 26 juin prochain.
Le magazine Rolling Stone mentionne que la chanson « Violent Hill » est un must, les riffs de Jonny Buckland sont en parfaite harmonie avec l’esprit de Chris Martin, alors que Will Champion et Guy Berryman maintiennent un beat rock la batterie et à la basse. Le Los Angeles Times a également écrit que c’est première chanson s’avère un brillant retour pour le groupe.
Mentionnons que la dernière visite de Coldplay remonte au 3 août 2005 au Centre Bell. Mais quel concert mémorable, je dois dire!!!

Coldplay announce their “Viva La Vida” North American Tour in support of their new album of the same name, which will be released in North America on June 17. The tour, which will be produced by Live Nation, will kick off on June 29 in Philadelphia, PA. Ticket information is available at www.coldplay.com
Before kicking off the “Viva La Vida” tour, Coldplay will play free concerts in London (June 16 at the Brixton Academy) and New York (June 23 at Madison Square Garden). Information on how to win tickets to these shows will be available at www.coldplay.com
Viva La Vida, Coldplay’s upcoming album, will be released by EMI Music Canada on June 17. Produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, the record is the follow-up to 2005’s X&Y, which debuted at #1 in 32 countries (including Canada) and has sold 10 million copies worldwide to date.
The album’s lead single “Violet Hill” was downloaded by two million people during the recent one-week period in which the band made the song available to fans for free. It is now for sale at all digital retailers and is quickly rising to the top of the charts at Modern Rock, Album Rock, CHR and Hot AC in Canada. Coldplay will perform “Violet Hill” on the “TODAY” show on NBC on Friday, June 27 and on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on June 26.
“[Lead singer Chris] Martin broods over a lost lover with a snarling acidity that makes him sound more human than ever – miles away from the dreamy romantic he was on soaring ballads like ‘Speed of Sound,’” said Rolling Stone, naming “Violet Hill” a must-have in a recent “Downloads” column. “Jonny Buckland rips jagged, bluesy riffs that match Martin’s mood while drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman maintain a stalking beat…primal rock & roll.” The Los Angeles Times pronounced the single a “promising return,” also marveling at its harder edge.
